Pollution and the Advance of Technology essays
Contamination and the Advance of Technology papers Innovation is a significant piece of everybody's life. Regular we experience innovation at home, school and at work. We utilize this innovation to better our lives. Be that as it may, do we truly? With the progressing of innovation likewise comes the issue of contaminating the world we live in. We underestimate the car, yet as we use it, we add to the developing contamination issue. Presently in the year 2000, vehicle organizations have perceived the contamination issue, and have propelled their own innovation to help have any kind of effect. For instance, Honda has just delivered and offered a gas/electric vehicle to the purchaser. In this paper I need to address how the development in innovation has really assisted with constraining the contamination being siphoned into the spot we call home. I will address horticultural synthetic concoctions, plastics, and the food handling industry. These three zones legitimately impact us regularly here in the Midwest and I feel are the most significant with regards to finding innovative progressions to help with the contamination framed by these items. Living in Iowa and the Midwest we realize how significant farming is to supporting a steady economy. Agribusiness is the premise of a huge inexhaustible asset and it is step by step being perceived that with cautious improvement it could assist with enhancing the utilization of oil for fuel and non-fuel items. The synthetic substances we use to help produce these yields are in manners a significant danger on the land. These synthetic substances which are for the most part utilized in our general vicinity are pesticides and composts. In composts and pesticides there are numerous components utilized. They incorporate nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, and other follow materials. The significant region of concern explicit to the utilization of composts and pesticides is the impact of filtering of nitrate on nature. The truth of this issue is that of keeping up dissolvable phosphates for the plant to use before they are secured up in the dirt as insoluble calcium phosphates. It is the appli... <!

ACT Math Questions, and What to Do About It
How You'll Get Stuck in SAT/ACT Math Questions, and What to Do About It SAT/ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips So youââ¬â¢ve been gazing at one math issue for what feels like perpetually, or possibly youââ¬â¢ve experienced your fathom and none of the appropriate response decisions coordinate what you found. Or then again perhaps you simply feel like incidentally you made a gigantic mistakeâ⬠¦. All things considered, never dread! At the present time you may be stuck on a math issue, however weââ¬â¢ve all been there and there is constantly an approach to recuperate. Weââ¬â¢ll walk you through both how to perceive when youââ¬â¢re stuck (itââ¬â¢s not constantly clear until past the point of no return) and what to do about it when it occurs. By and large Test Structure The SAT math area and the ACT math segment are planned and organized in an unexpected way. In spite of the fact that numerous standards of how to tackle a math issue (and how to escape a math tie) will remain constant for the two tests, there are some one of a kind traps and advantages covered up in each test. So letââ¬â¢s take a gander at a little foundation and structure for both the SAT and the ACT to give a superior establishment for the sorts of ways you can stall out on a math issue and how to receive in return. About the SAT Math Section The SAT math area necessitates that you set your scientific information to work in manners that may appear to be bizarre or new to you. Most SAT math questions won't appear as though the sorts of inquiries you see on your math tests in school and this might be a test to manage from the outset. In any case, while the inquiries might be surprising, every single math theme utilized on the test is one that you are likely acquainted with and have read for various years. In the event that youââ¬â¢re not used to the structure of the SAT, there are two fundamental ways you can end up caught into the no-manââ¬â¢s-place where there is choosing incorrectly replies: by overestimating the trouble of each question or by belittling the trouble of each question. (Wow!) A few understudies get so turned around by the contorting and irregular introduction of the inquiries that they overlook the way that they will be comfortable with most, if only one out of every odd subject on the SAT math segment. This sort of understudy will in general frenzy and either make wild theories or leave numerous inquiries clear that she likely could have comprehended. Different understudies, be that as it may, go the direct inverse way and think little of how precarious the inquiries on the SAT can be. Numerous inquiries (however not all) are set up in manners that will control any individual who isnââ¬â¢t taking care of close consideration the correct track. And all the appropriate response decisions on the numerous decision segment are regularly produced by normal understudy blunders, so it very well may be anything but difficult to succumb to the numerous ââ¬Å"baitâ⬠answer decisions accessible. In the following segment, weââ¬â¢ll show you the best way to tell when youââ¬â¢re tending to be categorized as one of these snares and how to receive in return. About the ACT Math Section The ACT math segment will sporadically give you an inquiry that is set up in a weird or new manner, yet generally, ACT math addresses will be reasonably ââ¬Å"straightforward.â⬠Do you realize how to set up and understand for a normal? Do you know what a sane number is? A huge part of your ACT math addresses will look simply like the ones you've found in school. Despite the fact that many ACT math questions are a long way from simple, the introduction of the inquiries isn't explicitly intended to deceive or trap you. ACT math questions are testing for the most part for two reasons: you will be on an a lot stricter time smash than you would be on the SAT (see our article on the contrasts between ACT math and SAT math for more detail on this) and the subjects being referred to might be progressively dark to you. For example, most understudies will be far less acquainted with trigonometry or successions than they are with single variable conditions, yet these are altogether points that will be on the ACT. Since the ACT math segment must be finished rapidly, it's significant that you understand when youââ¬â¢re going down an inappropriate scientific way. So letââ¬â¢s investigate how to spot it when it occurs. Time is a valuable asset on the two tests, so it's critical to change course rapidly if something's turning out badly. The most effective method to Tell When Youââ¬â¢re Stuck (or Going Down the Wrong Path) Pretty much every math question on both the ACT and the SAT can be understood in 30 seconds or less. On the off chance that youââ¬â¢re acquainted with the material, you can totally illuminate pretty much each and every math question with a lot of time to save. Also, every single inquiry on the test is structured so that an understudy can tackle it without an adding machine. Despite the fact that you should utilize an adding machine on the test to support your speed and precision, consistently remember that you donââ¬â¢t in fact need one. How does this information help you? All things considered, on the off chance that you find youââ¬â¢re going down the bunny gap and need 30 stages to tackle an issue, or on the off chance that you begin getting strange series of decimals or unusual root frameworks, at that point stop! On the off chance that the issue is taking a few minutes to understand or you figure it would actually be incomprehensible (or just super hard) to explain without an adding machine, at that point something turned out badly and you should go back and forth back to the start. Letââ¬â¢s take a gander at a couple of instances of ACT and SAT issues and some basic understudy mistakes to see this in real life. Letââ¬â¢s state you got to this issue and were going so rapidly through the test that you misread the word ââ¬Å"areaâ⬠and thought you should explain for the edge. This may appear to be an undeniable error at the present time, however keep in mind the impacts of adrenaline and exhaustion on your capacity to think coherently. Itââ¬â¢s very simple (and very normal) to commit an error like this on the test and address the cost in lost time in the event that you do. However, on the off chance that you read ââ¬Å"areaâ⬠as ââ¬Å"perimeter,â⬠, at that point you would see that the ââ¬Å"perimeterâ⬠of triangle DFH was 10, which would imply that each side was $10/3 = 3.33$. Gee. This is now relentless dubious. Keep in mind you ought to have the option to fathom any question without a number cruncher, so in the event that you have decimal focuses, they will quite often be 0.5 or, all the more once in a while, 0.25. To get a decimal of 0.33 is suspect. In any case, in the event that you continued onward, you would locate that each side of triangle DFH is comprised of different sides of the littler triangles. This would imply that the side of each littler triangle was: $3.33/2 = 1.67$ Presently a red alarm ought to be sounding in your mind! Youââ¬â¢ve gotten two ââ¬Å"weirdâ⬠decimal qualities in succession you still havenââ¬â¢t discovered your answer yet. Itââ¬â¢s a smart thought to delay and check whether youââ¬â¢ve committed an error some place before you sit around going any further. [Note: the best approach to really tackle the issue is to either discover the region of every little triangle-$10/4 = 2.5$-and duplicate by the all out number of little triangles, or to set up an extent of the zone of DFH to AFK. In any case, your last answer will be E, 62.5] Presently letââ¬â¢s investigate another model, Last time, we said that maybe you basically misread the issue. This time, possibly you considered the point to take care of the issue, yet wound up stuck part of the way through. For example, letââ¬â¢s state you were comfortable enough with quadratic conditions to perceive this was one, yet didnââ¬â¢t know a ton else about them. Well it says that the estimation of $x$ is - 3, so should mean we supplant $x$ with - 3 and understand from that point, isn't that so? $x^2 + mx + n = 0$ $-3^2 + 3m + n = 0$ $9 + 3m + n = 0$ Well. Well this doesnââ¬â¢t look encouraging. We could attempt to detach $m$ to discover itââ¬â¢s esteem, in which case we would state: $3m + n = - 9$ $3m + - 9 - n$ $m = - 3 - {n/3}$ Yet, we still donââ¬â¢t know the estimation of $n$, so that doesnââ¬â¢t help us much. We could attempt to factor it, however without knowing the estimation of $n$, we still canââ¬â¢t find $m$. Weââ¬â¢re well and genuinely stuck. [Note: the best approach to take care of the issue is by seeing how calculating quadratic conditions functions at its center. On the off chance that - 3 is the main incentive for $x$, at that point it must imply that our quadratic factors out to be a square. Our components should in this manner resemble: (x + 3)(x + 3) for $x$ to rise to - 3 since $x + 3 = 0$ = $x = - 3$. On the off chance that we appropriately disseminate $(x + 3)^2$, we will get $x^2 + 6x + 9 = 0$, which implies the appropriate response is C, $m = 6$.] Now and again, youââ¬â¢ll have the option to see before long (likewise with our first model) when youââ¬â¢re turning out badly, and in some cases it will make a couple of strides before you hit a stopping point (similarly as with our subsequent model). Be that as it may, as you get more work on unraveling SAT and ACT math questions, youââ¬â¢ll begin to get senses to feel when youââ¬â¢ve taken a left turn some place, and this is where you should make a stride back. In any case, what do you do once you understand youââ¬â¢ve run into an issue? Letââ¬â¢s investigate. We can spare this, not to stress. Well...probably. Almost certain. (Net) What to Do When Youââ¬â¢re Stuck As you experience your test, answer your inquiries by following these means: Stage 1: Always Answer the Easiest Questions First When in doubt of thumb when taking the either the SAT or the ACT, consistently root out and answer the inquiries you can finish the quickest and with the most certainty. Keep in mind every single inquiry is worth one point, so it doesnââ¬â¢t matter in the event that it was the least demanding issue or the hardest. Nobody is deciding how you complete your test, so donââ¬â¢t feel you need to overlook the more straightforward issues for the more troublesome ones. Get your focuses where you can and continue pushing ahead. The ACT math segment is masterminded in climbing request of trouble, so the most punctual inquiries will likewise be the simplest. The SAT is somewhat more entangled, since the math bit of the test is separated into three segments two altogether numerous decision and one mix different decision and matrix in. SAT different decision questions

Cats!!
Cats!! East Campus is the best home I could have ever asked for. Dorms at MIT are kind of different from most other colleges. Each dorm has its own special culture and ours is especially fantastic. Not only do the dorms have awesome cultures but also each individual floor has its own fantastically different culture and feeling of community! My absolute favorite floor in the world is my home. I live on the third floor of the east parallel of East Campus, called Tetazoo after the infamous James E. Tetazoo. We honor Squanches and eat a whole lot of pancakes. Perhaps one of the coolest things about Tetazoo is the presence of cats. Here on Tetazoo we have three adorable kitties. There are Kerry N. 14s little kitties Galileo and Thor (Kate R. 14 wrote about them!!) and they are so sweet and fuzzy. Here is Galileo!! And here is Thor :) They are so amazing and adorable!! But our third cat is especially um.. unique. He is still amazing and adorable, but hes very different. His name is Crichton, and he is not that intelligent. He is known as Derp Cat. As you can see, he is very derpy. Derp Cat is not smart. He is not smart at all. Here is a story about Derp Cats intelligence. One day, Derp Cat decided that he wanted to mosey on into the room of Duncan 13. The top part of his window was stuck open and without a screen. Today, this window is fixed and with a screen. But that day, there was no screen to block things from falling out of the window. Like papers. Or people. Or cats. I think you know where this story is going. Derp cat really likes windows. So Derp Cat saw this open window, and hes really stupid, and he decided to jump out the window. Im not sure how he got up there, but he did. Derp Cat went out the window and went Meow and then he was in a bush. He was fine, just a little dizzy, but he fell three stories. Hes not that smart. Adam 15. told me that when Derp Cat fell out the window, he went Derp Derp Derp instead of Meow. Thus, Derp Cat confirmed that he was given the right name. I love him very much, but hes quite unintelligent. I love our cats. And our home. East Campus and Tetazoo are amazing :) Post Tagged #East Campus

It will be expired 10 years after granting or within 30 days of leaving the company. However, CSI has not yet implement the formal plan for annual stock option grants. Hence, the grants would be awarded based on an ad hoc basis to ensure that employeesââ¬â¢ stock holdings were in line with their current position and contribution to the company. Stock option actually is an effective motivational tool but not for CSI, this is because their employees do not understand the options and does not know how to value them. Lgbt Rights Transgender Rights - 1480 Words
Transgender Rights Cassidy Howell No one wants to feel like they do not belong or like they are not cared for. Transgender people are just like everyone else and deserve to be treated equally to cisgendered people, or people who identify as the gender they were given at birth. According to Sam Killerman, being transgendered means living as a member of a gender other than that expected based on sex assigned at birth. This definition is extremely important because a transgender person is still a person. Gender is seen as a spectrum, and one can fall anywhere on this spectrum. Again, according to Sam Killerman, being transgendered means living as a member of a gender other than that expected based on sex assigned at birth. There are many more genders than just the one assigned at birth. Just because a person is born with male genitalia does not mean they have to be male. There are many different Gender identities and gender neutral bathrooms affect more than just Trans people. People who are not transgender also have trouble when it comes to bathrooms. For example, someone who is gender fluid is described to feel like a mix of the two traditional genders, but may feel more man some days, and more woman other days. (Killerman). Housmanââ¬â¢s ââ¬ÅTo an Athlete Dying Youngââ¬Â Free Essays
A. E. Housmanââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"To an Athlete Dying Young,â⬠also known as Lyric XIX in A Shropshire Lad, holds as its main theme the premature death of a young athlete as told from the point of view of a friend serving as pall bearer. We will write a custom essay sample on Housmanââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"To an Athlete Dying Youngâ⬠or any similar topic only for you Order Now The poem reveals the concept that those dying at the peak of their glory or youth are really quite lucky. The first few readings of ââ¬Å"To an Athlete Dying Youngâ⬠provides the reader with an understanding of Housmanââ¬â¢s view of death. Additional readings reveal Housmanââ¬â¢s attempt to convey the classical idea that youth, beauty, and glory can be preserved only in death. A line-by-line analysis helps to determine the purpose of the poem. The first stanza of the poem tells of the athleteââ¬â¢s triumph and his glory filled parade through the town in which the crowd loves and cheers for him. As Bobby Joe Leggett defines at this point, the athlete is ââ¬Å"carried of the shoulders of his friends after a winning raceâ⬠(54). In Housmanââ¬â¢s words: The time you won your town the race We chaired you through the market place; Man and boy stood cheering by, And home we brought you shoulder-high. (Housman 967). Stanza two describes a much more somber procession. The athlete is being carried to his grave. In Leggettââ¬â¢s opinion, ââ¬Å"The parallels between this procession and the former triumph are carefully drawnâ⬠(54). The reader should see that Housman makes another reference to ââ¬Å"shouldersâ⬠as an allusion to connect the first â⬠¦ â⬠¦ middle of paper â⬠¦ â⬠¦ oem because the athlete lived a short choppy life, yet, be it for only a moment, he lived elaborately. Utilization of Reflective Practice among Healthcare Professionals free essay sample
Reflective practice is frequently utilised throughout nursing care. It allows the healthcare professional to explore their past and present experiences, their concepts of current practice and enables the ability of identifying means to enhance ongoing development (Levett-Jones Bourgeois 2007, p. 117). Mann, Gordon Macleod (2007, p. 595) highlights that current healthcare professionals must function in complex clinical systems. In order to do so must activate their own awareness to certain needs or interruptions which occur on the provision of nursing care. In purpose of this response I have elected the Gibbs (1988) reflective cycle which incorporates description, feelings, evaluation, analysis , conclusion and action plans to structure my reflection and deconstruct my chosen issue (Bulman 2008, p. We will write a custom essay sample on Utilization of Reflective Practice among Healthcare Professionals or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page 226). Due to the poor instruction given for this discussion l have chosen to structure my reflection to critically explore the significance of establishing a therapeutic relationship in nursing care to holistically improve best practice and patient health outcomes and the consequences amd damaged caused by choosing to ignore the importance of this relationship (Bulman 2008, p. 226; Schutz 2007, p. 27). The Gibbs (1988) model will be exercised to facilitate evaluation, analysis and will enable me to arrive at conclusions and recommendations after exploring academic literature relevant to my event (Bulman 2008, p. 26; Schutz 2007, p. 27). Therapeutic relationships are imperative to clinical practice as they are emphasisied to be the most pertinent component in facilitating the successful resolution of a clients presenting problems (Mann, Gordon MacLeod 2009, p. 597). In doing so we explore the concept of caring utilising theoretical and experiential examples to illustrate ways in which heal thcare systems can both drain and nurture the practitionersââ¬â¢ capacity to care, further enhancing best practice patient health outcomes (Ioannidou Konstantikaki 2008 p. 19). However, the significance of maintaining a therapeutic relationship is not readily identified or appreciated as it is just recognised to be included in the clinical paradigm. This ignorance was a central theme, which was predominant throughout the period of my clinical practicum. To expand further on the situation, my clinical practicum was based at an geriatric unit at a metropolitan hospital.

juries essays
juries essays Beginning with the drafting and ratification of the United States Constitution, the sixth amendment right, right to trial by peers or jury, has been enforced. Throughout history, the jury process has been used in various cases, whether a high-profile case or a state or local criminal case, juries have been the fundamental factors in considering whether or not a defendant is to be freed or sent for punishment. As time has progressed, however, the jury process has complicated, and juries have become more and more susceptible to coercion and corruption in the courtrooms, thus causing glitches and oftentimes costly errors in the United States courts of law. From jury selection to juror lack of knowledge or even motivation, corruption and confusion has been present and has caused problems which can be avoidable and treated. Should the United States continue to exercise their right to trial by peers, or should they reconsider the proven mishaps and errors juries often make and eliminate the jury process altogether? As proven in the United States Constitution, a trial by jury is a given and required right to Americans encountering the law. As an amendment, Americans should then maintain that right as they do with other amendments, and should not necessarily be stripped from this right. As easily proven throughout various court cases, juries have proven to be successful in punishing the guilty and freeing the innocent, and have effectively exercised their right of trial by jury. In this regard, juries should thus be allowed to continue in courtrooms and made even more readily available for those who Although oftentimes proven accurate and successful, juries are faced with corruption and mistakes just as often. Cases where jurors have proven innocent and defendants have later plead guilty have occurred numerously, ...

History of the American Labor Movement
History of the American Labor Movement The American labor force has changed profoundly during the nations evolution from an agrarian society into a modern industrial state. The United States remained a largely agricultural nation until late in the 19th century. Unskilled workers fared poorly in the early U.S. economy, receiving as little as half the pay of skilled craftsmen, artisans, and mechanics. About 40 percent of workers in cities were low-wage laborers and seamstresses in clothing factories, often living in dismal circumstances. With the rise of factories, children, women, and poor immigrants were commonly employed to run machines. Rise and Fall of Labor Unions The late 19th century and the 20th century brought substantial industrial growth. Many Americans left farms and small towns to work in factories, which were organized for mass production and characterized by steep hierarchy, a reliance on relatively unskilled labor, and low wages. In this environment, labor unions gradually developed clout. One such union was the Industrial Workers of the World, founded in 1905. Eventually, they won substantial improvements in working conditions. They also changed American politics; often aligned with the Democratic Party, unions represented a key constituency for much of the social legislation enacted from the time of President Franklin D. Roosevelts New Deal in the 1930s through the Kennedy and Johnson administrations of the 1960s. Organized labor continues to be an important political and economic force today, but its influence has waned markedly. Manufacturing has declined in relative importance, and the service sector has grown. More and more workers hold white-collar office jobs rather than unskilled, blue-collar factory jobs. Newer industries, meanwhile, have sought highly skilled workers who can adapt to continuous changes produced by computers and other new technologies. A growing emphasis on customization and a need to change products frequently in response to market demands has prompted some employers to reduce hierarchy and to rely instead on self-directed, interdisciplinary teams of workers. Organized labor, rooted in industries such as steel and heavy machinery, has had trouble responding to these changes. Unions prospered in the years immediately following World War II, but in later years, as the number of workers employed in the traditional manufacturing industries has declined, union membership has dropped. Employers, facing mounting challenges from low-wage, foreign competitors, have begun seeking greater flexibility in their employment policies, making more use of temporary and part-time employees and putting less emphasis on pay and benefit plans designed to cultivate long-term relationships with employees. They also have fought union organizing campaigns and strikes more aggressively. Politicians, once reluctant to buck union power, have passed legislation that cut further into the unions base. Meanwhile, many younger, skilled workers have come to see unions as anachronisms that restrict their independence. Only in sectors that essentially function as monopolies- such as government and public schools- have unions continued to make gains. Despite the diminished power of unions, skilled workers in successful industries have benefited from many of the recent changes in the workplace. But unskilled workers in more traditional industries often have encountered difficulties. The 1980s and 1990s saw a growing gap in the wages paid to skilled and unskilled workers. While American workers at the end of the 1990s thus could look back on a decade of growing prosperity born of strong economic growth and low unemployment, many felt uncertain about what the future would bring.

The process of investigating Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
The process of investigating - Essay Example Thereafter, a comprehensive step of gathering evidence follows (Walters and Petroni, Pg 9).Evidence forms the most critical part of the whole process, since a verdict is made by using the available evidence. The process of gathering adequate evidence always needs the highest level of organization and enthusiasm on the issues at hand in order to get the relevant evidence that can be used to make that just and fair judgment. It remains one of the main steps that will go a long way in enhancing skills of the people involved in spearheading the investigation. These are possible for the fact that the process involves a step-by-step process that will rely on the comprehensive handling of the preceding step in order to make the right move forward (Baryamureeba and Florence Pg, 18). Thus, an investigator has to uphold up to standard organizational skills to ensure a smooth, coherent and comprehensive investigation concerning the issues. At the end of the day, the investigator perfects the skill of organizing self on the way they handle their activities not only in that particular investigation, but also in ones life as a whole. After enough evidence are gathered, the findings are then used to make a decision on the way forward from that issue. At this point, the people involved get the fairest verdict on whatever they are involved in, which is a great step towards helping the community at large. People get just and fair treatment in any kind of issues where proper investigation is involved because there is adequate knowledge about those issues. Mental awareness of both the investigator and the client involved is increased with comprehensive use of these steps to conduct an investigation. Mental awareness is crucial for the fact that acceptance of the outcomes of issues is very reliant on the clients mental stability after a verdict is made. With adequate information

Military Sciences 4 Questions Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words
Military Sciences 4 Questions - Essay Example On the other side, the interim government in Afghanistan was helpless because it was facing a number of internal and external problems like corruption, illegal trade of opium, underdeveloped economy and security breach. At the same time, Taliban was seeking cooperation with al-Qaida and to subdue the interim government in Afghanistan. In National Defense Strategy document, the defense secretary (2008) makes clear that ââ¬Å"Violent extremist movements such as al-Qaeda and its associates comprise a complex and urgent challengeâ⬠(p.2). As the Middle East (say, especially Afghanistan) is considered as the core of international terrorist plots, the national interest of the United States is at risk in this area. To be specific, the 9/11 incident proves that al-Qaida in Afghanistan is behind the global spread of terrorism. So, the U.S. government must deal with the grass root level reason behind the global spread of terrorism. Almost all the world nations face the problem of terrori sm and religious fundamentalism. In addition, the problem of terrorism can be dealt with military involvement because other ways prove ineffective. Our military involvement supports the vital national interest because the ultimate aim of the US forces in Afghanistan is to interrupt and dismantle the international terrorist groups which operate from Afghanistan. ... So, one can easily identify that the situation in Afghanistan is worse and US security is at risk. Besides, military involvement in this area aims to keep pressure upon the terrorist groups like Taliban and al-Qaida. In short, military involvement in Afghanistan is unavoidable because it supports the vital national interest of the United States. 2. The Department of Defense (DoD)ââ¬â¢s tendency to focus on conventional conflicts is based upon the Cold War strategy. One can easily identify that this strategy is not practical and is impossible to implement in irregular wars. For instance, the international terrorist groups make use of irregular warfare and conventional warfare based upon military power cannot withstand the same. So, the 2008 National Defense Strategy (NDS) is vital to counterbalance DoDââ¬â¢s tendency to focus on conventional conflicts. Within this context, NDS aims to implement a number of measures. One can see that the NDS provides ample importance to long-term effort by confronting the challenges faced by conventional warfare, which proved to be ineffective. From a different angle of view, NDSââ¬â¢s aim to adopt innovation into the context of contingency planning, development of different forces, and intelligence work are utmost important to amalgamate innovation into DoD. In National Defense Strategy document, the defense secretary (2008) makes clear that ââ¬Å"We must tailor deterrence to fit particular actors, situations, and forms of warfareâ⬠(p.12). Besides, the NDS is aware of the importance of irregular warfare in Iraq and Afghanistan. For instance, irregular warfare tactics and partnership can be helpful to win wars in the Middle Eastern regions. One can see that NDS put forth innovative ideas to equip the security

Successfully Trained Employees and their Importance
Successfully Trained Employees and their Importance Lindsay Bootz Starting a new job is often a new learning experience, but it can also be stressful and overwhelming. When employees walk into their new place of employment for the first time, their impressions on the company begin and for the next few weeks they will be training to be an integral part of their new organization. For an organization, training a new employee is a very important process for its success as sales associates are most often the part of staff involved face-to-face with the customers, the importance of their knowledge of the company or products they sell is very high. Great training leads to less expenses, less employee turnover, and better customer service. There are many financial factors to consider when training a new employee. Instruction materials, equipment, wages for both the employee and the trainer all have an impact on the organizations finances. Per Levy, it costs retailers more than $4,000 to replace a store employee (2012 p.440). More than one individual becomes part of the process, often the human resources operations manager, supervisor and/or other employees will be involved in the success of the new associate which will have its own financial setbacks. Going through training materials such as e-learning software, books, and equipment can also use up resources. Hiring skilled employees and retaining them if possible, and having consistent performance reviews to identify more training needs can ensure employee confidence and show them more likely to stay, is one way to keep costs low (Taylor, 2016, p. 3). Hiring a new employee with no experience will take a significant amount of time to properly train and will cost more m oney, on the other hand, hiring skilled workers will require only a short amount of training, typically a week, to help them acclimate to a new work environment thus costing less to train. For example, a company that specializes in lumber will most likely decide not to hire someone more familiar working in fast food if given a choice for the simple fact that it will take a significant amount of time and money to train them. The Model of Excellence was designed by author and trainer Nick Drake-Knight in an attempt to find a better way to train employees and help them retain the information given to them. After extensive research, he discovered that the best sales people all follow a common pattern, a patter which connects (2012, p. 8). The Model of Excellence includes three steps, level one: explicit standards, level two: consistency, and level three: sustainability. All three are meaningless unless used together. The first level, is an explicit set of standards that spell out exactly what is expected of the employees, such as: a daily maintenance list, personal presentation, upselling, and customer acknowledgement (Drake-Knight, 2012, p. 9).Ãâà Typically, companies will have a standard time frame for each associate as they go through their training. Training generally does not stick and has little impact after the training sessions are finished as most associates grow bored when subjected to e-learning or classroom type of training. On-job-training would be ideal but can be more difficult to train as situations arise. Since the common way of training employees does not seem to work, it is important to implement the explicit standards as a way for employees to know their job even after their training is complete. Consistency, level two of the model, is a major goal that managers will strive for. Consistency means everything will stay at the same high standards, all the time. The managers that are best at achieving as much consistency as possible are aligning it with level one of the model, and including themselves as part of the selling process. A bad example of consistency is allowing an employee to go through training and months down the road giving no feedback as to their performance and keeping them in the dark about new company procedures.Ãâà Training should be done every day along with practicing correct sales procedures; managers can make sure this gets done by recapping goals and quotas throughout the day, actively staying part of the team, and holding regular meetings to keep associates up to date on store news and training. Sales training is a waste of energy (and worst of all hope) unless it is made sustainable (Drake-Knight, 2012, p. 17).Ãâà Training is usually something that does not go far after the training events are finished. Much of the information tends to get lost and employees must ask questions later about a subject they should already be familiar with. Sustainability, level three of The Model of Excellence, says that training should be sustained long after training is finished (2012, p.18) Momentum Management is the key to sustainability, it is a way to keep training consistent and constant throughout the day. It is like on-the-job training, but comes when the time is necessary.Ãâà For instance, if a manager overhears an employee answering the phone with the incorrect script, they can correct the employee after they hang up and inform them of the correct thing to say. Practicing sustainable techniques are a sure way to be involved and ensure that employees are being trained corr ectly and handling their jobs well. The Model of Excellence shows that with these techniques, after training is complete, with all three levels being used to their full potential, it could be beneficial with making sure employees know their job well, and are continue to learn as they continue their careers. As employees are the face of the store, it will always be important that they are properly trained. Staying consistent and sustained will make sure of that. Another simple solution to be sure an employee is getting the proper training and knowledge they need to handle their new job is to have better structured orientation at the beginning of employment. In her book New Employee Orientation Training, Lawson begins to compare the typical orientation session to a more successful approach. Typical orientations at an organization are generally presenter centered and tend to be boring for the applicant. The employee does not have much room to participate aside from only listening. Bored employees do not tend to retain the needed information to perform their jobs well and thus feel incompetent on the job. This could be a culprit of why the turnover rate is so high. Four percent of employees leave their jobs after the first day, and within thirty days know if they feel welcome or unwelcome in the work place (Lawson, 2016 p.4). A solution to this type of orientation is to have a more interactive and hands-on environment for training. Socializing the new employee and helping them integrate into their new workplace from day one of training can help them increase engagement in the workplace, better job satisfaction, and of course better job performance. Socializing also gets them involved in the workplace before the training is complete, employees can interact with the new employee and begin to adapt to one another (Mujtaba, 2006 p.262). In other words, taking the time to properly train and teach new employees how to do their jobs is worth the investment as they would not quit as quickly causing need for hiring new employees. It could also be beneficial in the sense that the employer would not have to pay for any mistakes the employee could potentially make. Having improved training programs for employees are critical to the employees success and especially to the employers success in keeping the business running smoothly. Employees that are not trained properly can end up wasting not only their time but another employee or managers time when they do not understand how to solve a problem. Proper training will also provide better overall customer service and more customers returning. When a customer enters an establishment, they expect to get help when they need it and that the employee will be knowledgeable on the product they are interested in. As training is the employees first impression into a company, it is important to get it right. Although many finances are part of the training process, it is important to make sure the employee is knowledgeable in all areas of their job. For instance, executing The Model of Excellence is one way to ensure a constant training of employees which also keeps them motivated. When employees are motivated and sure of what their job consists of, it shows a lower turnover rate for employment which is great financially and from a customer service standpoint. Customers enjoy seeing the same people and getting great service in the process. A well equipped employee is one that will be able to give the best customer service. To sum it up, Training is a very important part of a companys process for hiring new employees. Some companies tend to have a higher turnover rate due to poor training and lack of knowledge about the organization or product they may be selling. It is worth spending more time and resources on one person, than to spend them all repeatedly on the same failing training program. Employees should be treated like assets to their organization and get the proper tools they need to learn their job efficiently.Ãâà Proper training results in less finances wasted, less employee turnover, and a more fulfilling customer base.à References: Drake-Knight, N. Crown Corporations – Lcbo
Which Canadian Crown Corporation should be privatized? Crown Corporations are government-owned entities (Stastna, Kazi. ). An example includes the Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO). LCBO stores are the only stores, in Ontario, allowed to distribute liquor and other distilled beverages; therefore, LCBO is a monopoly (ââ¬Å"Beverage Alcohol Service Review: A Matter of Balanceâ⬠). The main purpose of this regulation is to limit the consumption of such products in Ontario ââ¬â for better health (ââ¬Å"Beverage Alcohol Service Review: A Matter of Balanceâ⬠). However, the government ownership of LCBO may not be ideal. The corporation should be privatized because its products do not benefit everyone in Ontario, and because privatization may be better for the economy. Firstly, LCBO distributes distilled spirits which not everyone living in Ontario may be fond of. As the corporation is government owned, any losses will have to be accounted for by the government. For this, the government will have to use taxpayersââ¬â¢ money. LCBOââ¬â¢s products are not public goods. Not every taxpayer will benefit from the existence of LCBO, so it would be unfair to use taxpayersââ¬â¢ money in case of any losses.Furthermore, liquor is a private good. According to John Kenneth Galbraithââ¬â¢s theory on public purpose, ââ¬Å"poverty is due to social imbalance that results in a lack of public goods. â⬠(Dunn, Stephen P. and Steven Pressman) Also, LCBOââ¬â¢s products undergo a great deal of advertising. As a result, their products may be considered ââ¬Å"artificial wantsâ⬠ââ¬â goods that people do not necessarily need (Snm090). With this in mind, the government should focus more on public goods, and less on private goods. Secondly, the privatization of LCBO would benefit the economy. LCBO, being a monopoly, faces zero competition.Hence, the corporation will not feel the need for innovation. If the liquor industry was privatized and legal b arriers to entry were abolished, the industry could expect the arrival of new companies. The industry will no longer be a monopoly and competition will exist. This competition would lead to innovation. Moreover, the privatization of LCBO would still benefit the government. According to the ââ¬Å"LCBO Annual Report 2010ââ¬â11â⬠, net sales and other incomes reached $4. 7 billion in 2011. Thereââ¬â¢s no doubt, then, that the government could sell the corporation for billions.Although this is a one-time profit, the government could still continue to make profits by imposing heavy taxes on the sale of distilled spirits. Since such beverages are habitual goods, their price elasticity of demand would be inelastic. This means that as price increases, the total revenue would also increase. The government would find themselves profitable if they were to impose taxes. To conclude, LCBOââ¬â¢s government ownership may not be a wise idea. The Crown Corporation should be privatized as it produces goods that do not benefit the entire population of Ontario, and as privatisation could benefit the economy.Works Cited ââ¬Å"Beverage Alcohol Service Review: A Matter of Balance. â⬠ApolNet. n. p. , June 2005. The Death Of Hamlet By William Shakespeare - 1522 Words
There are only a handful of experiences that everyone must practice, and one of the most provocative is death. For some, death is fearfully avoided, but for others, it is constantly sought after. Suicide is a topic that impacts all kinds of people, so much so that it is often addressed in literature. For real people and fictional characters such as Shakespeareââ¬â¢s Hamlet, prince of Denmark, thoughts of self-harm are brought about by overwhelming emotions that became almost too heavy to handle alone. For others, such as Hamletââ¬â¢s companion Horatio, these thoughts originate when a person allows one singular, but extremely powerful, emotion to surround and consume him. In his play Hamlet, William Shakespeare explores suicide through theâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦They attempt to suppress Hamletââ¬â¢s true emotions in order to cover up their pure guilt. All at once, Hamlet is abandoned by his father, his mother, and his uncle and stepfather to cope with his chaotic sentiments of grief, disgust, anger, disappointment, and depression alone. This whirlwind of emotions quickly turns into thoughts of yearning to escape the torture of a life in his circumstances, thinking to himself, ââ¬Å"How weary, stale, flat, and unprofitable seem to me all the uses of this world! Fie on ââ¬Ët, ah fie! ââ¬â¢Tis a weeded gardenâ⬠(1. 2. 137-139). The world that Hamlet lives in is full of nothing but evil and torturous emotions that he does not want to have. The collection of overpowering emotions can become difficult for a person to handle, particularly when coping with little to no support system. Hamlet had suffered death of a role model, only to suffer death again, within himself. Methods of physical self-harm are never mentioned by Hamlet but the thought of dying seems infinitely more pleasurable to him than to continue his life under his new parents. His personal and expressive self-destruction is not caused solely by his twisted familial struggles however, as Hamlet finds himself caught in a storm of emotions brought about by his peers as well. Hamlet also suffers one of the greatest emotionally-destructive experiences through his passionate love for Ophelia. Overtaken with Opheliaââ¬â¢s great beauty and sexual attraction, Hamlet becomes obsessed

Leadership Activity Free Essays
II. Reality Check Author: Tom Siebold is a writer and consultant in Minneapolis. He is also co-owner of Collegegrazing. We will write a custom essay sample on Leadership Activity or any similar topic only for you Order Now comââ¬âa site to help college bound teens to learn more about what they need and want in a college. Objective (s): To pinpoint actual leadership behavior and to set behavior goals How the author has used this exercise:à I have had success using this exercise as a pre- workshop self-inquiry activity. I have also used it as a homework assignment. Its strength lies in the fact that it paints a picture of actual behavior and then helps the leader see how he or she can redistribute behavior. Activity Description: * Have the participants think about what they actually do on a daily basis. Then ask them to draw generalizations about how they spend their leadership time. Each participant completes the Leadership Behavior Chart below (In blue font). * You can follow up with full group or small group discussion. The central question is this: Is your leadership behavior out of sync with the way that you feel an effective leader should be spending his or her energy? Think about your daily interaction with the people who you lead. Generally speaking, determine the actual behaviors that define that interaction. Using the list of behaviors below, determine the amount of time (in percentages) that you generally spend on each behavior. Then in the second column, determine what you feel would be ideal distribution of time (in percentages). Behavior | Percentage of time spent on each behavior | Ideally the percentage of time you would devote to each behavior | Informing | à | à | Directing | à | à | Clarifying or Justifying | à | à | Persuading | à | à | Collaborating | à | à | Brainstorming or Envisioning | à | à | Reflecting (Quiet Time for Thinking) | à | à | Observing | à | à | Disciplining | à | à | Resolving interpersonal conflicts | à | à | Praising and/or encouraging | à | à | Follow Up Questions 1. Is there a gap between how you should spend your energy and how you actually spend it? 2. Are there some behaviors that are taking up too much of your leadership time? Why? 3. Are there some strategies that you can employ that would move you closer to your ideal distribution of behavior? Options:à A. Some groups may want to calculate behavior totals to see how their peers are spending their energy. B. From the third column it is easy to move into a discussion about ââ¬Å"idealâ⬠leader distribution of energy. C. You may also use this same format with both meeting and team interaction. Added thoughts or considerations: Since this activity helps participants see what they are actually doing, it helps them translate leadership theory into real behavior. Once participants review their charts it is easier for them to design strategies to align their leadership behavior. ââ¬âReturn to Topââ¬â III. Your Leadership Calendar Author: Tom Siebold is a writer and consultant in Minneapolis. He is also co-owner of Collegegrazing. comââ¬âa site to help college bound teens to learn more about what they need and want in a college. Objective (s): To extend leadership learning beyond the workshop. How the author has used this exercise:à This exercise is a good follow up or homework activity. Activity Description: Ask the participants to mark twelve different days on their calendar spread out over four or six months. At the end of each marked day, participants should write down some leadership behavior (either positive or negative) that they exercised during that day. Each behavior should be followed by a reaction statement that answers two questions: ââ¬Å"How did I feel about my action or behavior? â⬠à andà ââ¬Å"How does this action or behavior jive with what I know about leadership best practices? Options:à On each marked day, the participant can send his or her personal leadership comments to a selected partner from the original workshop. This is a good method for accountability and feedback. Added thoughts or considerations: I almost always use the strategy in the Options section above. When people leave the workshop, they get caught up in daily mainten ance and frequently donââ¬â¢t get around to doing the follow up exercises. By having them contact a selected partner from the workshop, it puts a little pressure on them to follow through. ââ¬âReturn to Topââ¬â IV. Leadership Dance Card Author: Tom Siebold is a writer and consultant in Minneapolis. He is also co-owner of Collegegrazing. comââ¬âa site to help college bound teens to learn more about what they need and want in a college. Objective (s): To encourage participants to talk to one another about specific leadership best practices How the author has used this exercise:à Very simply, I use this activity to get participants to share best practices. This format will work with almost any professional topic. Activity Description: Each leader has his or her own style of leadership. Some styles will work for you while others wonââ¬â¢t. In this activity participants mix with the full group and sign up the names of three other participants on their ââ¬Å"interview dance card. â⬠à Then during a set period of time (this may be done over an extended break or even a lunch period) participants seek out their ââ¬Å"dance partnersâ⬠to conduct a short leadership interview. They ask each other a set of questions provided by the facilitator and record the responses. Below are some leadership interview questions that I have used in this activity: 1. How do you motivate your reports? 2. How do you keep your reports meaningfully informed? 3. How do you maintain your teamââ¬â¢s focus on specific goals? 4. How do you set, clarify, and hold your reports accountable toà your expectations? 5. How do you recognize successful work? Note: you may want to restrict each interview to one or two questions depending on the amount of time you want to devote to this activity. When the full group reconvenes, the facilitator asks participants to share leadership tips and strategies that they picked up in their interviews. The facilitator may want to make a master list of these to pass out later. Options:à Have the group brainstorm for interview questions to be used in the interviews. Added thoughts or considerations: This activity serves many purposes: it gets the participants moving around, it connects people, and it is an efficient strategy to share best practices. ââ¬âReturn to Topââ¬â V. Center Stage Author: Tom Siebold is a writer and consultant in Minneapolis. He is also co-owner of Collegegrazing. comââ¬âa site to help college bound teens to learn more about what they need and want in a college. Objective (s): To visualize different leadership styles How the author has used this exercise:à If the group is comfortable with one another, a role playing activity can have some impact. I have used this activity to set up myà information about leadership styles. However, this same format can be used with a variety of different topics. Activity Description: Ask for four volunteers. One volunteer plays the role of a à team member who recently has missed meetings or arrived late. The other three volunteers each play the role of a different kind of leader. To save time I usually give the leader volunteers a personality trait from which they can create their persona: the by-the-book leader, the self-absorbed leader, the paternalistic leader, the softy, the blamer, the lecturer, the know-it-all, etc. Allow the volunteers to have some time to think about their role. Gather the full group in a circle and place two chairs in the middle. In turn, have each leader confront the team member. Explain the situation to the group before the role playing begins: Loren, the late team member, has not only been missing meetings or arriving late, he has also appeared to be very tired and disjointed. Some team members have suggested that Lorenââ¬â¢s wife is ill, but others say the situation is rooted with Loren himself. As a leader, what is a good way to handle Loren? After all three scenarios have been played out, ask the full group to comment on the different leadership approachesââ¬âWhat worked? What could the leaders have done differently? How would the ââ¬Å"idealâ⬠leader handle this situation? This activity is a good spring board to exploring different leadership styles. Options:à You may want to have the full group identify three different role playing situations. Added thoughts or considerations: I try to check with some of the participants before the workshop begins to see if the group would be comfortable or willing to engage in a role playing activity. -Return to Topââ¬â VI. Leaders you Admire Author: Tom Siebold is a writer and consultant in Minneapolis. He is also co-owner of Collegegrazing. comââ¬âa site to help college bound teens to learn more about what they need and want in a college. Objective (s): To seek leadership characteristics through personal experience How the author has used this exercise:à I ha ve found stories to be a powerful way for participants to connect to the workshop subject matter. Generally people like to tell and hear stories. Activity Description: Divide the group into small groups. Ask participants to share a story about the best or most influential leader that they have encountered. After each story, identify leadership characteristics by asking the question: ââ¬Å"What was it that made this person such an effective leader? â⬠à Then as a group, identify the traits that all the leaders seemed to share. All groups then write the shared traits on a white board. You can use this traits list as a springboard to explore more about what makes a good leader. Options:à You can ask the groups to share stories about the worst leaders they have encountered. You will get some dandy stories. Added thoughts or considerations: I like to insert an activity like this into a workshop when participants are starting to run a little low on energy. A good story swap frequently revives energy. Be sure not to drag this activity out too long. Encourage the participants to include details in their leadership examples. ââ¬âReturn to Topââ¬â VII. Leadership Swap Author: Tom Siebold is a writer and consultant in Minneapolis. He is also co-owner of Collegegrazing. comââ¬âa site to help college bound teens to learn more about what they need and want in a college. Objective (s): To exchange leadership ideas and build participant rapport How the author has used this exercise:à Sometimes it is helpful to allow the participants to have some time just to swap leadership examples. In short they have some time to portray their own leadership style by giving examples. Activity Description: This activity is a structured leadership example exchange. Divide the group into groups of three. From the list of ââ¬Å"situationsâ⬠below, instruct the groups to take turns giving examples of something they have done or witnessed. Leadership Situations * A creative twist on a situation or issue. * A clever improvisationââ¬âââ¬Å"dancing on your feetâ⬠* A pleasant surprise * An Aha moment * Something that generated a great deal of excitement * A conflict resolved * A breakthrough insight or solution * A really tough situation * A blindside experience * A moving (emotional) situation Options:à You may want the groups to identify their own Leadership Situations Added thoughts or considerations: Remember that this is a set up activity, so donââ¬â¢t let it go on too long. Allocation Rules for Airports in the United States of America
Question: Discuss about the Essay for Allocation Rules for Airports in the United States of America. Answer: 1). The Airport slot allocation process: The following steps are involved in the slot allocation process. 1). Initiation of Slot Trade Posting: One airline pledges a desire to trade slots and they may be Buying, Selling, Swapping, Leasing in or leasing out the slot (I.A.T.A, 2010). 2). Posting and Alerts: Once the slot post is agreed upon between the carrier and the airport, the parties receive alerts either via email or SMS thus ensuring the requirements are distributed effectively (F.A.A, 2016). 3). Expressions of Interest: Interested airlines must record an Expression of Interest (EOI) before the deadline which is a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA). After exchanging NDAs between both parties, slot details, airlines are revealed, and the confidentiality of both are protected (F.A.A, 2011). 4). Agree Trade: The aforementioned processes are done on slottrade.aero and in this process, the airlines and airports enter into mutual discussions to agree on a trade. However, these discussions are not part of slottrade.aero and the parties take responsibility for undertaking their own due diligence inquiries as well as making appropriate contracts (Randt et al., 2015). 5). Complete Trade: If a contract is reached between both the airports and the airlines then a slot business is ratified with the airport control authority who confirms viability once the deal is termed possible (I.A.T.A, 2010). 2). Examining Pros and Cons of various candidate selection rules of the U.S Department of Transportation and Federal Aviation Administration: In this section, we will identify, explore, and analyse the candidate selection rules set by both the U.S Department of Transportation and the Federal Aviation Administration. We will also explore the pros and cons of each model implemented, recommended, and used by both. The Federal Aviation administration is the main body that oversees all rules, regulations, methodologies, functions and practices of airlines, airports, and all other issues pertaining to aviation. The U.S Department of Transportation is the parent agency of the Federal Aviation Administration and that rules of both the Federal Aviation Administration and the U.S. Department of Transportation have laid foundations of the rules and statutes of International Air Transport Association (IATA) (I.A.T.A, 2010 and F.A.A, 2016). U.S Department of Transportation airport slot allocation rules: Introduction: The U.S Department of Transportation was formed in 1965 on the recommendations of Najeeb Halaby to President Lyndon Johnson, who emphasised that transportation should be elevated to a more cabinet level privilege as he had expressed his frustrations with the continuous restrictions the U.S Department of Defence had put on air travel and transport (U.S Department of Transportation, 2016). The agencies working under the U.S Department of Transport are as under: Federal Aviation Administration (F.A.A). Federal Highway Administration (F.H.W.A). Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (F.M.C.S.A). Federal Railroad Administration (F.R.A). Federal Transit Administration (F.T.A). Maritime Administration (M.A.R.A.D). National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (N.H.T.S.A). Office of Inspector General (O.I.G). Office of the Secretary of Transportation (O.S.T). Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (P.H.M.S.A). Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation (S.L.S.D.C). Office of the Assistant Secretary for Research and Technology (O.S.T-R). Surface Transportation Board (S.T.B). The Federal Aviation Administration oversees all aviation related activities and reports directly to the U.S Department of Transportation. However, there have been widespread conflicting issues over the jurisdictional authority and rules of both (USA Today, 2015). U.S Department of Transportations model for Airport slots: The U.S Department of Transportation allocates slots as per the guidelines of International Air Transport Association (I.A.T.A) which are as under: Schedule facilitation should be based on process adjusting schedules in a common agreement between the airlines, airport and airport control authorities to avoid congestions and delays. The airport control authority should adjust the smallest number of operations by the least amount of time to avoid crossing the airport's synchronisation limits. The airline must advise the airport control authority of all planned flights and maintenance operations before operating the flight. Airlines should not intentionally operate services. Planned times are based on planned departure and arrival times. At times, the actual times may differ due to an array of operational factors. Standard Schedules Information Manual (SSIM) message exchange formats must be used for communications at level 2 airports. Calendar of Coordination Activities specifies deadlines of facilitation processes to be acted upon by both airlines, airports and other facilitators. All activities of facilitated operations are to be recorded in UTC time format. Pros and Cons of this model: Being the primary authority for transportation and transport control, the U.S Department of Transportations model is feasible in theory. It does guarantee airport tiers as well as tiers of operations and agreements with airlines and has granted exemptions to some airports and airlines as well (US Government Accountability Office, 2012). These controlled slots mechanism have helped many domestic airports in America reduce delays as well as relieving congestion of aircraft traffic at airports in harsh winter weather to ensure nonstop flights and reducing the traffic on major international airports as well (Wise, 2016). However, this model has also been criticised for the fact that it benefitted only small airlines and that airports of Washington D.C Metropolitan area, as well as those of New York metro area, were benefitted heavily. Furthermore, larger airlines such as American airlines as well as Delta airlines have used this model to hoard and even guard slots from smaller competing airlines (USA Today, 2015). Airport slot allocation rules of the Federal Aviation Administration: Introduction: The Federal Aviation Administration (F.A.A) is the national authority overseeing and regulating all characteristics of American civil aviation, be it building, operation and management of airfields, managing air traffic, authorization of employees and airliners and protecting American assets during the inauguration or re-entry of marketable space vehicles (Federal Aviation Administration, 2016). Its roles include modifying U.S commercial airspace and carriage, amending symmetrical and flight examination standards of air course-plotting accommodations, encouraging and developing civil aeronautics as well as aiding in developing new technologies, issuance, suspension and revoking certificates and licenses of pilots, regulating and promoting safety, researching and developing the national skies as well as civil aeronautics and lastly, developing and carrying out programs to control conservational impressions of civil aeronautics especially aircraft noise (Federal Aviation Administration , 2011). The F.A.A Model for slot allocation: The Federal Aviation Administrations model is slightly similar to the model based on IATAs framework and also resembles the model set by the US Department of Transport but the workings are different. The postulates of the model are as under: 1). Registration for slot allocation: The F.A.A holds that new and incumbent airlines with total slot holdings standing below 5 percent at domestic airports and those who do not have any code sharing agreements with their intended airports may participate in the reallocation of slots at the respective airports they intend to operate in as well (Federal Aviation Administration, 2016). These eligible airlines are advised to register themselves on F.A.As portal as well as emailing their applications to the F.A.A as well. They should keep in mind that they cannot submit joint bids with an airline and that only individual bids are accepted and the registering airlines must state that whether they are individual airlines or have merged with other large airlines as well as mentioning that they are subsidiaries of larger airlines (Federal Aviation Administration, 2011). 2). Slot Bundles: Each airport has its own bundle of slots as well as an asking bid price for those slots. Example of such is specified below for New Yorks La Guardia (LGA) Airport: (Wensveen, 2011). 3). Bidding on slot bundles: In order to acquire a slot, the airlines must be registered bidders and must submit their bids in cash during the bidding period. Also, they can also submit more than one bid during the bidding process and that the F.A.A will interpret the newest acknowledged offer as that particular buyers concluding bid. When emailing their bids, airlines should include the airports name and slot allocation purpose in the emails subject line by mentioning Buyer identification number, slot bundle, preferred rank and price of the bid (Federal Aviation Administration, 2011). However, The F.A.A will reject emails and bids that do not contain complete information. Bids are effective when they are received and withdrawal is not permitted by the F.A.A. Also, the F.A.A will post all information regarding the bids on their board and website (Federal Aviation Administration, 2016). 4). Completing slot reallocation transactions: The F.A.A will notify both divesting airlines as well as those who won the bids for each package of the winning offer and interact with them for completing the necessary payments. Also, both the divesting airline and the bid winner enter into an obligatory settlement with regards to the auction of the dissociated spots in 5 functioning days after the day of announcement of the completion of the offer. Consequently, the F.A.A expects airlines to notify them of their entry into binding agreements of the sports via email certifying that only distribution would be or exchanged for the slots (Federal Aviation Administration, 2011). 5). Posting Bid Information and Queries: When the F.A.A has received the notice of the obligatory agreement, it posts the notification of the persuasive bid and identity of the bid winner accordingly. It will also post all other information regarding the bids and their respective bidders. It is also unlikely that no submissions are received for a specific slot parcel as such would then revert back to the F.A.A and notice for such will also be posted if no bids are made. The airlines are also at liberty to contact F.A.A to resolve any issues and queries regarding such (Federal Aviation Administration, 2011). Pros and Cons of this model: This model is comprehensively used by most airlines around the U.S.A in terms of domestic traffic and domestic flights as the Federal Aviation Administration of the U.S.A is the leading body of aviation monitoring and development (U.S Government Accountability Office, 2012). This model provides a comprehensive structure of bidding for airlines and invites all sorts of airlines, albeit with some restrictions in order to ensure competition remains intact and that no unfair bidding practices are practised by large airlines and their subsidiaries (Sanchez et al., 2015). However, this model has been criticised for being too relaxed and not allowing bidding for international slots as well as compared to the model provided by the U.S Department of Transport (Hatford et al., 2015). Furthermore, the F.A.As total monopolistic control over the aviation market as well as conflicting rules and regulations in excessive cases have been observed and many airlines have expressed concern over whether the F.A.A is the supreme controlling authority or the U.S Department of Transportation and that many large airlines argue that the F.A.A just admits too many low-cost carriers at U.S Domestic Airports (USA Today, 2015). Recommendation of the best model: The U.S Department of Transport is the parent body of the Federal Aviation Administration and caters to a wide array of transportation bodies and networks. It also has the rights and duties of overseeing the aviation sector but often depends on reports provided by the Federal Aviation Administration (Halford et al., 2015). Both the U.S Department of Transport and the Federal Aviation Administration were the brainchildren of Najeeb Halaby, former U.S Secretary of Transport and administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration as well and He was also instrumental in expanding the influence of both the U.S Department of Transport and Federal Aviation Administration in worldwide aviation (Randt et al., 2015). The Federal Aviation Administration is not only the chief aviation body of the U.S.A but also its model is the best one suited to the U.S market. It not only keeps the slots in check but keeps the prices regulated as well. It also ensures competition and fair trade, maintains che ck and balance on airline formation, keeps regulations and amendments in place to ensure timely prevention of unfair practices by low cost carriers and their larger carriers and ensures wellbeing of American aircraft manufacturers as well (F.A.A, 2016). The British model of airport slot management is different as The British Civil Aviation does not have total control on all airports. London Luton, Heathrow and Gatwick airports have been privatised and are currently under control of ACL which also manages Dubai International Airport (West, 2016). The F.A.As model is different as the airports are not only under state and regional control but also airports are national assets and they shall remain under control of the state as it is in the best interests of the state and is strongly preferred by the U.S Department of Defense to keep all American Transport hubs and ports under U.S control (U.S Government Accountability Office, 2015). The model provided by the F.A.A is as comprehensive as the U.S Department of Transports model as they both are exactly alike. The fact is that, in effective management, delegation is the key. When the F.A.A is in place, there is no need for the U.S Department of Transport to completely interfere in its activities unless and until its necessary and that the U.S Department of Transport keeps a check and balance in F.A.As reporting and activities (U.S Department of Transport, 2016). Since the U.S Department of Transport needs a body to check aviation and airport systems effectively as well as protecting American airlines from Foreign competition, the Federal Aviation Administration is the key to such and has effectively handled all aviation activities since its inception. Najeeb Halaby was wise in the creation of the U.S Department of Transport and the Federal Aviation Administration which further indicate the efficiencies of both bodies. Despite hindrances, both bodies have worked exce ptionally well and continue to do so (Wise, 2016). Outcomes of the model provided by the F.A.A: The Federal Aviation Administration was conceived before the U.S Department of Transport in 1958 and was merged with the Department of Transport under Najeeb Halabys recommendation to U.S President Lyndon Johnson in 1967. The Federal Aviation Administration worked under the department of defence of the U.S.A and has the sole responsibility for researching, developing, managing, maintaining and enhancing the American civil aviation (Randt et al., 2015). The Federal Aviation Administration also reviews and amends the bidding processes for slots across all airports in the United States of America and has jurisdictions in overseas American territories as well. The Federal Aviation Administration also works with airliner manufacturers as well as their parts manufacturers as well as the airport controllers and municipalities in determining the kind of aircraft best suited to the airports and the routes needs (Wensveen, 2011). The F.A.A has also allowed fair competition in the American Avia tion market giving many small and medium sized airlines as well as low-cost carriers considerable breathing space in terms of business and has also helped them in obtaining slots (West, 2016). Implications of Inaction and Inability to act upon the F.A.As model: First Scenario: We assume the U.S Department of Transport has the sole authority and proceeds as it deems necessary. However, we will see a monopoly of airlines at domestic airports meaning that there wont be a balanced approach and that large airliners and their subsidiaries will be occupying the slots at American domestic airports and that low-cost carriers will be forced out of business. In order to avoid such scenario, the U.S Department of Transport delegated all aviation related duties to the Federal Aviation Administration (F.A.A) (USA Today, 2015). Second Scenario: We assume the U.S Federal Aviation Administration (F.A.A) has total control and that the Federal Aviation Administration does not report regularly to the U.S Department of Transport. In this case, the prices of slots will not only rise but will also fall without check and balance, and furthermore, American carriers may risk losing out to even smaller carriers as well as foreign carriers. Protecting national interests and keeping check and balance is a must (Federal Aviation Administration, 2016). Third Scenario: We assume both the U.S Department of Transport and the Federal Aviation Administration perform renewals after every 5 years. Renewing after every 5 years may not be possible for the aviation industry as the industry has not only seen a slump but also that there have been mergers among airline firms worldwide. Furthermore, the American domestic airline and flight market is a strong one and that which is heavily protected and that both F.A.A and U.S Department of Transport need to be on their toes to see whether amendments need to be made in the rules and agreements or not (Wise, 2016).
